Heyyaa all =]…..well..actually…m writing an article about the sagging Wrestling culture in India..Mumbai…to be more precise…!
We dont get to read or watch our fav wrestlers in the news…and hardly any other media except the internet…and then there’s ten sports ofcourse…to catch all the action!
But my article’s basicaly about why isnt wrestling so developed n why isnt there so much craze about it in India like all in other countries?? Like the U.K. for instance?
Although you get to see numerous WWE fans out here…why isnt the game given coverage in news in India…why is it biting the dust here??
I’d like to know your opinions ….to help me with my article…!
Any other reference you can provide me with wud be of great deal of help!=]
Even if ur not from INDIA…..you can atleast gimme ur opinion as to what YOU think about the issue??

My friends (and me) are crazy about it! Always on wwe.com, wrestlezone.com or other sites to get the latest info. Ten Sports telecast is 14 days old, so we always use the internet.

The Indian situation is pretty bad. Wrestling is a pseudo-sport. I never expect newspaper coverage for it. Even real sports like football (soccer) are never in the newspaper (Thank God for Yahoo! UK Eurosport!) ALWAYS CRICKET! I never liked cricket. I’m more of a soccer and wrestling guy you know. I love contact sport.

The thing is, most WWE fans in the USA know it’s all scripted and the moves are done with the cooperation of both wrestlers. But India, which has a true wrestling culture, will find this hard to digest. To keep the wrestling culture alive, WWE is telecasted, but the fans in India don’t know that it’s scripted. They’re pretty fanatical. I got a black eye from my friend for telling him that all matches were predetermined, storylines existed and the WWE was a mixture of wrestling and theater. Which is actually true.

I almost suffered the same fate for saying that Khali does NOT drink 6 litres of milk and eat 20 pounds of beef for breakfast!

An acquaintance of mine, who’s from a Punjabi wrestling family, says “Randy orton is such a bad person. He kicks people in the head and tries to kill them.” I barely stopped myself laughing and getting another black eye.

EDIT: Arch, that’s exactly what I’m saying. People here don’t know it’s scripted. They really thought Khali had a problem with Hornswoggle. They make up fantasy breakfasts, lunches and dinners that he eats. They’re really making a big fuss over him.
They even forget another Indian wrestler with the ring name ‘Sonjay Dutt’ wrestles in TNA. It’s all Khali.

Man, you should have heard my pal (who is a fan of The Deadman by the way) boo The Undertaker when he faced Khali. This cult hero thing has got to stop!
